Welcome to Life in Sutton Place, a weekly newsletter for people who live in Sutton Place - or plan to live in or visit New York.
In this Issue: We’re focusing on who created a unique style of his own blending “poetry and pragmatism” for anyone in Sutton Place to enjoy, what small business has a colorful display of really ideal and savory gifts, how you can nourish your child-like spirit while seeing an exhibit about The Little Prince, and where you can experience the essence of “less is more” in Sutton Place.
5 things to do
RESTAURANT
1. Check out the colorful and festive display at Ideal Cheese Shop: The store, located on an unassuming stretch of 1st avenue is the place to stock up really ideal and savory gifts. Started in the mid-1950s as a family-owned business, the shop has evolved into not only a retail store with over 250 cheeses from 17 countries serving local connoisseurs, but also a wholesale business catering to restaurants and hotels throughout the United States.

2. Take flight with The Little Prince: Antoine de Saint-Expéry, who wrote The Little Prince while living in New York City, was a passionate traveler and adventurer. These qualities are reflected in the beloved story of a pilot who comes to Earth in search of friendship and understanding. On view in the exhibit, The Little Prince: Taking Flight (through February 5, 2023) are manuscripts, photographs, and artifacts that focus on Saint-Expéry’s creative process and vision for the book that 80 years later still reminds us what matters is what you see with your heart.

ARCHITECTURE
3. Spread the love: Part of what gives Sutton Place its unique character are the buildings designed by the renowned architect, Rosario Candela, who created a unique style of his own blending “poetry and pragmatism” says Donald Albrecht, Curator of Elegance in the Sky: The Architecture of Rosario Candela.
Candela’s design process transformed problems into charms placing equal importance on creating elegant spaces for living as on streetscapes for anyone in Sutton Place to enjoy, such as the heart-shaped detail at the entrance with festive plants.

4. Take a minute to enjoy the quiet simplicity of the tree: And the elegant pattern of leaves at the Mies van der Rohe-designed Seagram Building that naturally captures the meaning of “less is more.”
